If your looking at the National rankings on the CCA site it could be because they are only up to date as of July. The rider ahead of your son may have had more "ranked" events in at that time which should include 2 Morley Westerns, 2 Abby Westerns and the National Championships (also in Abbotsford) and possibly the Red Deer Westerns. I looked at my own points and it looks like the only race that is included for me is the National Championships although other riders ahead of me have more points than that one race would allow. So I have to assume the 2 Morley races and 2 Red Deer races are not accounted for yet but the 3 Abby ones are (I didn't attend the Abby Westerns). There is a note on the CCA site that says the rankings are to be updated this coming week, so we should see a better picture then.

I took a closer look and found that the rankings as of July included only Western National #1 in Abbotsford on June 21st and the National Championships also in Abby on May 17th. So there is another Abby National plus both Morley races, plus both Red Deer races, plus both Ridge Meadows races, plus the Calgary race(s), plus the Provincial Championships race to be calculated in those rankings yet. Rest assured, Calvin will be ranked #1 once the final tally is done.

Re: question

Hi everyone, I just got off the phone with Reme from the CCA. I was asking about the national ranking. He informed me that the dates they are using for the national ranking are:

Abbotsford Canadian Championships May long weekend
Red Deer CBA July 20/08
Lethbridge PROV Aug 24/08
Calgary CBA Aug 31/08
Prov Championship Sept 14/08

He also told me that they do not have all the results they need from Alberta. My first question is why are they using the Lethbridge Prov? and was everyone but me aware of this? and why do they not have all of our results in?
Could someone please clear this up for me.

Thanks
Kristen

The CCA has just posted the races that were to count for this years national ranking. This information might have been helpful BEFORE!!! the season started, not after!

Kristen,

[edited]
That is NOT correct. As was posted at the beginning of the year, all Western National Series races count, the CCA National Championship counts, and the one day Provincial Championship counts. No Provincial Cup series races count.
What would count is Morley WNS in March, Abbotsford May Cdn Championships, Abbotsford WNS June, Red Deer WNS July, Ridge Meadows WNS August, Calgary WNS Finals August, and Red Deer Provincial Championships September (the Sunday race).
Also there was a UCI level 3 race in Kingston in May that counts.

I looked at the calendar on the CCA site http://www.canadian-cycling.com/cca/racing/nat_ranking.shtml (click the 2008 National Ranking Events BMX link) and all the races are listed there. I think Reme just missed a few when he spoke to you. There is one error and that is the Lethbridge race as it does not qualify for National ranking points and should not be on the calendar. This particular calendar has been up since early May. It's confusing as the CCA calls the Western National races "Provincials" on their calendar and that is refering to the "inter-provincial" series or as we know it the Western National series and only lists the first date of all the 2 race WNS weekends.

As for why they don't have Alberta results I'm not sure, as far as I know the Alberta Bicycle Assocation (not Alberta BMX) sends those in to them.

I just went back to the CCA website and read the National Ranking Explanation BMX http://www.canadian-cycling.com/cca/racing/nat_ranking.shtml and found that the ranking season goes from April 1 - Sept 30 each year so that would make the 2 Morley WNS races in March null and void. It goes further to say the following:

Provincial events, National events (Gold, Silver, Bronze), National Championships and
International events...
All results will count toward the National Ranking for these levels of events
. Meaning that both days of the WNS weekend races should count even though only one per each weekend is listed on the Calendar. Again, remember that when the CCA mentions Provincial events they are talking about "inter-provincial events (i.e. Western Nationals)" and Provincial Championship (one day) races.

This is all explained in the document I have linked to above. It took me 3 or 4 readings before I really absorbed it all

Thanks DW,

I had read that as well, and your understanding of how the ranking is calculated is what I thought. Until I spoke with Reme and his ass. Anna. It is Anna who is calculating the points. Do we need to make sure that the are using the correct races?

Just checking

What I know so far is that only 1 race per Western National weekend will count (as per what they have published on their calendar). Remi says that only a maximum of 5 races per region are eligible. By region I believe he means Province. That tidbit doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere. I think we can assume that the race dates listed on the CCA calendar are the ones that will count with the exception of Lethbridge which I am still looking for an answer on.

The results to October are now posted, unfortunately I don't think any of the races have been included since the May version. There is a disclaimer at the top of the results mentioning the missing races (which appears to be all of them). The Lethbridge Provincial is still there and at this point I don't have an answer as to why. I'm thinking the silence gives us the answer: they realize it's a mistake but aren't going to change it. We'll have to wait for the FINAL results to see.

After all the hype about results being posted so fast with the current admin, The national ranking is still not up to date!

That is true, however the results we were speaking of are those for the Provincial and Western National Series which are done by a completely different group of people. Kingpin, don't you have anything better to do? You know, there was not one whisper mentioned about the ABA or any Alberta tracks considering the ABA at the AGM last week.
